Our mission
The Kahibalo Foundation was established to protect biodiversity in the Philippines, particularly in the Visayas region. We want to achieve our goal primarily by improving the level of environmental and conservation awareness among the Filipino citizens. We believe that it is feasible thanks to multidimensional education and reliable research.
How do we want to achieve this?
Check out the projects currently run by the Kahibalo Foundation.
Education on many levels
We rely on comprehensive education to raise awareness not only among teachers, but also among pupils and students at local schools and universities!
Research projects
We not only educate, but also do research! We conduct scientific research on Philippine species, including endemic species, on the beautiful island of Bohol!
Raising awareness
Through our educational and research projects, we raise awareness of Filipino citizens and spread knowledge about the nature of the Visayas region!
Kahibalo means awareness!
From the very beginning we had an idea to name the Foundation in Cebuano to pay tribute to this wonderful regional language of the Philippines spoken in the Visayas region. We also wanted to fully grasp the local context of our work. We decided go for a name “Kahibalo” because it can be translated as “knowledge” or “awareness“, which fully embraces the essence of the Foundation and its overall goal. This is our mission – to protect biodiversity by raising awareness about the local environment.

Philippine tarsier
The protagonist of Kahibalo Foundation
Let us introduce the protagonist of Kahibalo Foundation – the little Philippine tarsier (Carlito syrichta). It all started because of it! Field research, cooperation with scientific institutions, the first educational projects on Bohol island, and finally – an idea to establish a foundation that will comprehensively protect the unique nature of the Philippines.
The Philippine tarsier is at risk of extinction due to exploitation in tourist areas, where animals are shown to tourists in inappropriate conditions, as well as due to the destruction of the natural environment it inhabits. It is one of the symbols of Philippine nature and it was the natural choice for the logo of the Kahibalo Foundation!
